Deirdre Cunningham, a 1979 graduate of Hartwick College, returned to the school for an interactive workshop on landscape design, a campus planting and a lecture titled "Art and the Public Landscape." The artist says that her design style was influenced, in part, by an independent study she conducted at the school and her senior project, "Wildflower Cultivation," Hartwick reports in a press release.

The program, led by both Cunningham and associate professor of biology, Peter Fauth, includes a hands-on landscape design workshop in which members of the Hartwick community learn about and apply basic landscaping design practices to the campus.

Cunningham graduated from Hartwick College after pursuing an Individual Student Program in Horticulture and German, that included a native plant internship at Garden in the Woods in Massachusetts. She went on to complete a master's degree program in landscape architecture, and worked as an intern in ecological landscape planning in Germany.

Upon her return to the U.S., Cunningham was hired by George Eastman House in New York as landscape curator, where she created educational programming and oversaw the restoration of the historic gardens and grounds for more than 12 years.
